Families / Young Children

Beeston Castle and Woodland Park Walk is perfect for families with young children as it offers a chance to explore the ruins of a medieval castle and enjoy a woodland ramble. The route is suitable for pushchairs and takes around 1-2 hours to complete. Along the way, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Cheshire Plain, discover a range of natural features, including a lake, a meadow, and a variety of trees, wildlife and even see the castle’s well-preserved walls, towers, and moat. There are also several play areas for children and picnic spots where you can relax and enjoy the scenery.

The Swan at Tarporley is just three miles from Beeston Castle, so you and the kids are welcome to stop by for a bite to eat, and maybe even a Snugsbury ice cream for dessert!

Adults

For those who are looking to take on a challenge, whilst exploring the beautiful Cheshire countryside then look no further than the 13-mile-long Eddisbury Way hike. This trail starts and finishes in Frodsham and takes hikers through the stunning countryside of Delamere Forest and the Sandstone Ridge.

The trail offers some steep ascents and descents, including a climb up Old Pale Hill, which rewards hikers with panoramic views of the surrounding area. The Eddisbury Way also takes hikers through a variety of different terrains, including woodlands, fields, and moorlands, making it a diverse and interesting ramble. This trail is a great option for young and middle-aged people looking for a challenging hike that will push them physically and mentally, while also allowing them to enjoy the beauty of the Cheshire countryside.

Seniors

Cholmondeley Castle Gardens is a beautiful destination with picturesque floral walks that are perfect for older people. The world class gardens themselves are home to a range of exotic plants and flowers, as well as several ornamental lakes and ponds. The paths wind through the gardens, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace and take in the beautiful scenery. The terrain is mostly flat, making it easy for older people to walk without experiencing too much strain. Additionally, the gardens have several benches and seating areas scattered throughout, providing ample opportunities for visitors to rest and take in the stunning views.

The Swan is just 8 miles from the castle, so if you are passing by or would like to extend your visit to the countryside over the weekend, we have 16 stunning boutique bedrooms ready and waiting for your arrival.
